Thanks to the site Facebook.com, students can meet millions of people from colleges including their own. If you aren’t already linked to the site, chances are you’ve at least heard about it.
Once someone has logged in, the next step is creating a profile which includes uploading a picture and filling out information on interests, hobbies and contact information.
ASU students can form a study group by looking up other people who are taking the same classes. They then have the option of writing on someone’s “wall” or sending a message to their Facebook inbox.
Since privacy can be an issue, Facebook takes care to protect its users. Students decide who views their profile and they can leave out information that they may be uncomfortable sharing, such as phone and room numbers. As with e-mail, blocking is also an option.
The site also makes it easy to find and communicate with high school friends that have gone to other colleges or those who haven’t had time to pick up the phone. All college students have access to the Internet and sending a quick message requires very little time.
