"I miss them all so much. My heart is just empty," said Patricia Morehart, Tammy's mother, who lives in Salt Lake City. "It has ripped our hearts, and we need some medicine to make our hearts feel better."
Police have named William Craig Miller, 28, of Scottsdale, an investigative lead in the case. Miller, owner of PuroClean of Scottsdale, a disaster restoration and cleanup franchise, faces charges in a Nov. 25 arson at his Scottsdale home. Steven Duffy, a former employee, faced similar charges. Steven and Tammy, 32, apparently worked with police to try to make a case against Miller.
Morehart said her daughter was a loving mother who struggled in life. Tammy, who had four children, moved from Manassas, Va., to Chandler by herself almost a year ago to start her life over. She moved in with her sister and began working for a restoration company and loved the work, Morehart said. She met and began dating Duffy.
"He didn't smoke, drink or do drugs," Morehart said. "He was very strict with the kids, and he was tremendous support for her. He was always there for her no matter what."
He had just started there, but classmates gave his grandmother a bag of photos and letters in his memory and have dedicated the yearbook to him.
