On the Internet, you also can meet married people pretending to be single, pedophiles pretending to be kids, average-looking people pretending to be beauties and heart-breakers pretending they're ready to march to the altar.

I reminded myself that, thanks to the Internet, people whose favorite food is barbecued tofu could hook up with each other. Meanwhile folks with throbbing joints could trade stories and share remedies in chronic pain forums.

An acquaintance of mine recently traveled to another state to see a book-lover he'd met online. So far, that relationship seems to be working out.

But for every story about finding true love on the Internet, I read one about con games on the Internet, infidelity inspired by the Internet and now, possibly, an Internet-spawned Bonnie and Clyde as well.
