The Only Dealer Downtown! Stop in today for a great deal on Chevrolet cars, trucks and SUV's Gov. held a cookout last week at the governor's official residence on Meridian Street for people who might be interested in top jobs in his administration.

About 100 potential recruits showed up, drawn not by the prospect of having burgers, beer and brownies with the governor but by the chance to work in his administration. But just as interesting as those who came to Thursday evening's soiree, perhaps, were the no-shows.Like first lady .The letter sent to Cabinet members and agency heads informing them of the cookout was signed by "Mitch and Cheri."But while he played host to the job seekers, she apparently had no interest in the job of hostess. Also missing was Bureau of Motor Vehicles Commissioner .Democrats have been calling for Silverman to be fired, citing his handling of branch closures last year and the computer conversion this summer that caused long waits and confusion at license branches. Each Cabinet member had been asked by the governor to bring someone to the cookout who might be interested in joining the Daniels administration.Maybe Silverman was worried that in his case, he'd be recruiting his own successor and that Daniels would have made the swap on the spot.
